• Educational Qualification: A bachelor's degree from any recognized university is a must with at least one of the following subjects namely, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science, Botany, Mathematics, Physics,Chemistry, Geology,  Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering or any other equivalent qualification. 
• Age Limits: Candidates should not be less than 21 years and not more than 30 years as on 1st August 2013. The upper age limit is relaxable for OBC/SC/ST candidates only and certain other categories of candidates to the extent as specified in the notice by the commission. 
• Physical Standards: Interested candidates must be physically sound in shape according to the Regulations given in notice by UPSC.

• Number of permissible attempts: The maximum number of attempts a candidate can avail are as follows  (i) General Category - four (ii) OBC - seven (iii) SC/ST - No limits applicable.
